Is it just us, or do others around us have a bed bug problem too?

It is not just a problem in your home, hotel or facility.  If you have a bed bug issue, most likely so do many other facilities like yours.  Here are a few of the heavy hitting states issues that make this clear to see.  These pictures are actual request to us for information broken down by city and region for a one year period.  It is amazing how much of a problem this really is.  Call us today and we can help you figure out the best plan of action to get rid of those bed bugs and setup a sustainable plan to keep them from coming back and causing the type of trouble you are facing right now.

Is a heater a heater?

The short answer is no.  All heat systems are designed for special purposes.  Taking an off the shelf heater from a local hardware store and running it at the high temps that are needed to kill bed bugs is not a safe thing.  Most will not get that hot anyway.  Most heaters are designed to take cool temperature air and raise it slightly so that over time a heat rise in the room is achieved.  The cooler room temps is what cools the motor.  When 100 plus degree air is coming into the heater instead, this can cause dangerous overheating.  The result of this can be motor failure, malfunctions and even fire.  Don't take chances.  The restoration and pest control heating systems have been designed with this in mind.  They will withstand the extreme heat created in these treatments and processes.

Can I use any fan to blow the heat around?

As you can guess, fans have the same problems in heat that heaters do.  Although they are not designed to create heat, they do.  Their motors create a lot of heat and when running in 100 plus degree environments, the internal components of a regular air mover can become damaged and can cause failure, malfunctions and even catch fire.  It's best to be safe and use air movers designed for the heat of restoration drying and bed bug treatments.

What about under the carpet?

One of the reasons air movers are used in heat treatment systems is to move the heat around.  It is not recommended to uninstall carpet.  As long as you are using the air movers to distribute the heated air throughout the area being treated, bed bugs will be killed under the carpet too.  This is one of the reasons that you need extended run times to get a complete kill.  Bed bugs die quickly at high temps.  The trick is getting the hidden areas in a room hot enough to kill any that are in those areas.

What about fire sprinklers?

Fire sprinklers are one of the difficult issues as far as heat treatments go.  Most sprinkler systems are rated for a 100 degree ceiling or less use.  It's important to know what type of system you are working with.  We highly recommend talking with your fire system contractor/ maintenance company to get a plan in place.  Many contractors use simple devises like insulated thermoses over the sprinklers held up with a zip pole available at your local hardware store.  Others have them removed and then put back after the treatment.  However you decide to handle this, please check your local fire codes to make sure you are working within those codes as you get your plan together.  We would be happy to talk to you about ideas for this but the responsibility of getting a plan in place and how well it works is yours.  We are not a franchisee nor a training center.  We supply the equipment used by many hotels ship lines, pest control companies and the like.

Will outside temps affect the process?

Yes.  The colder it is outside, the harder to maintain heat inside.  The better you seal off openings to the outside like vents, Portable AC units, PTAC systems in hotels and the like, the quicker you will get the heat to the kill zone and more successful your treatment will be.

How do I know it is hot enough?

We suggest an IR Gun style thermometer.  This is the quickest way to check the temps of walls, bedding, matrices, furniture and the like.  You can pick one up at Lowe's or Home Depot pretty cheap.  They buy these in volume and sell them for about the cost we can purchase them.  We do sell them if you want but suggest for price reasons to just pick one up at the hardware store.
